The tres chic Peugeot Regatta - Beneteau Cup
The 16th Annual Peugeot Regatta – Beneteau Cup
Firstly, the Beneteau Vicsail team would like to thank all the owner’s and crews who participated in this years (the 16th) annual Beneteau Regatta. It was a fabulous couple of days filled with fantastic racing, fine weather and fair winds.
This year we had over 40 Beneteau’s do battle on the water, ranging from a First 21.7 called “Benny” (from Lake Macquarie) through to the three ‘Queen’ Beneteau 57’s “Losel” and “Mistral”!
To all the IRC competitors we want to apologise for a mistake in the overall results – due to an incorrect handicap applied to one of the vessels the results have changed to see Robyn Hawthorn and his team on “Imagination” FIRST 47.7 take the overall honors. Congratulations to Robyn and his team. It also saw Colin and Gladys Woods on “Pretty Fly” FIRST 47.7 take second position overall – congratulations to Colin, Gladys and their team as well.
To the racing:
Blessed with two days of warm Sydney summer weather and light to moderate sea breezes, the Beneteau Cup got off to a great start with over 250 Beneteau owners, friends and sponsors gathering at the Cursing Yacht Club of Australia for a fantastic Champagne breakfast.
Once racing got underway the non-spinnaker division was won by John Walton’s in his 44.7 “Vivacite” – winning both races John and the team took the honors comfortably. Second place went to “Callista” the 47.7 owned by Tim Flahvin who also sailed well in both races to finish clear second of third placed “Magique” FIRST 45f5 owned by Chris McSorely.
The spinnaker division was won by “Reverie” with owner Michael Turnbull on the helm. Coming a close second was Bill Hall’s “Jewel” Oceanis 343 and third place went to “Lucette” skippered and crewed by a fantastic team all the way from Perth who also went on to win the best interstate boat! Congratulations!
And finally in the IRC division it was the Hawthorn family in “Imagination” FIRST 47.7 who dominated the racing with two wins and a third place from three starts winning overall to Colin and Gladys Woods in their 47.7 “Pretty Fly”. Third place went to Ray Harris’s FIRST 45 (skipped by David Champman in Ray’s absence. Well done to all those who competed and made the racing so tight and fair on the day.
